LESSON 6 OF 7

Decide and Begin

You have looked at your values and identified something you would like to achieve. You have considered why it matters to you and what you have available to help.

Sometimes that is enough to get started. You recognize what you really want, make a decision to pursue it, and take the first simple step.

Perhaps you want to feel closer to someone. You could give them a call or send a text, or invite them to do something simple and easy with you. If you want to learn something, open a book, ask a question (online is a fast way - google search), or try it once.

The first step will not accomplish the whole thing. It gets you involved. Once you begin, you may see more clearly what to do next.

We can spend a lot of time thinking about what we want to do. We look at it from every angle, wonder how it will all work out, and wait until we feel really ready. But 'really ready' never comes. Meanwhile, something we could do right now remains undone while we keep thinking.

Of course some things need detailed research and plans, such as building an addition to your home. But even these start with a simple search for basic designs that get the ball rolling.

Look again at what you chose earlier in this course. Is it something you really want? Does it fit with what matters to you? If so, what is one simple thing you could do to get started?

Choose a step that makes sense in your present circumstances. It might be a conversation, a question, or a few minutes trying something you have wanted to do.

Learn as you go.
