Think You are Getting Too Old?
As we get older, we may wonder what comes next. A familiar job or role can end, leaving us more time than we expected, with a feeling of being kind of lost or 'empty'.
At almost 70, I’m as interested in learning and sharing useful tidbits as ever. I love waking up every day with something to look forward to, whether it is writing something to inspire others or planning or doing the next step in a project!
Having a purpose doesn't mean working indefinitely. It might be helping someone learn a skill, working a garden, planning or doing a project that interests you, or just being a steady presence in another person’s life.
By this age, we’ve learned a few things worth passing on. We may know how to solve a practical problem, listen through a difficult conversation, or explain what we learned from a mistake.
Maybe feeling 'old' just starts with having too many ideas about 'what might have been', rather than just enjoying the moment or seeing what still interests us.
I like George Burns' view and approach to life. As he put it: “You can’t help getting older, but you don’t have to get old.”
Our reason for living can be more important than our number of years, as long as we stay relatively healthy. Let's enjoy what we can, and not be a victim of a number.
